How do you get position eligibility in fantasy basketball? ›

Position eligibility is determined by a combination of box score data, past performance, outside websites that track positional data, and a few of our trusted reporters. Adding or changing position eligibility is rare, however certain trends may result in updating a player's eligibility.

Position Eligibility for Batters

At least twenty (20) games played at a position during the previous season OR at least 25% of their total games played at a position in the previous season (minimum five games at that position). DH counts as a position.

Only players with the Injured Reserve (IR) or Out (O) tags are eligible for placement into an IR slot. Players tagged as Day-To-Day (DTD) are 'healthy' and are thus not eligible for the IR slot.

Position eligibility is determined based upon a minimum of 20 games, otherwise any position the player played at least 25% of the time, in 2023. "Pos. Rank" is the player's ranking at his ESPN primary position. "10$" are dollar values for ESPN's standard 10-team points leagues.

The NBA sends ESPN an updated list of every player's position eligibility, including rookies, prior to the start of each season. ESPN reserves the right to designate a different position for a player. League Managers DO NOT have the ability to change a player's position.

Power Forward. In basketball and on your fantasy team, this is an important position. Power forwards who can score, rebound, and block shots are what you need.

Standard: Standard Leagues are 8, 10 or 12-team standard-scoring leagues that use fixed rule settings and are managed by ESPN. Free Standard Leagues will draft players from the whole NBA Universe. Free Standard League rosters have slots for a total of 13 players per team.

How long can a player be placed on the IR list? League rules may vary but most players can stay on IR as long as they are injured. Once they are set to return, you have to activate the player and have them count as a part of your roster.

The IR spot is the Injured Reserve designation employed by some fantasy basketball leagues. In leagues where an IR spot is enabled, owners can give injured players this designation, which temporarily removes them from the roster, freeing up a spot to add another player.

Determining Positional Eligibility

We do not use any minimum thresholds for games or time played at a specific position as a way of determining who deserves a specific positional tag. Instead, we determine this based on past and expected usage for that player.

The following in-season rule remains in effect: Hitters add new eligibility at a position once they appear there in at least 10 games, while pitchers gain new eligibility with five starts (starting pitchers) or eight relief appearances (relief pitchers).

Position Rank

Shows how a player stacks up against other players at his position. The higher the player's positional rank, the better they are at that position. Fantasy Plus is required.

Typically, for a player to be eligible for an IR spot, they must miss a certain number of games or be dealing with a serious injury. Overall, the goal of the IR spot is to allow roster flexibility to fantasy owners while players are injured and unable to produce.

Position eligibility is determined by a player's past participation and information that our data provider collects. If it's determined that a player's primary position has changed, then that player gains eligibility for the new position but won't lose their original designation.

Go to your team homepage under "Roster". ​Tap on the "Move" button next to the player you wish to move. Tap the "Here" button next to the roster slot or player where you wish to move the selected player. If you select a slot that has a player in it, the two players will swap positions.
